The History of Ugg boots

Ugg boots are a sheepskin boot with a woolen inner lining. Ugg boots of the past typically have a tanned outer surface but more modern fashionable uggboots also come in baby pink, pale blue, winter grey and numerous other colours. Ugg boots are worn by both men and women all year round. Although not universal, ugg boots will typically have a sythetic sole and have become popular with teenagers. The current fashion for girls is to wear their ugg boots with mini skirts, leggings, and their jeans tucked into the ugg boots, Pamela Anderson style. Boys typically wear jeans or tracksuit bottoms with their ugg boots.

In Australia, ugg boots have long been popular with farmers, shearers, and other rural based people who have access to the raw materials required to create the ugg boots. Ugg boots popularity has grown as a result of World War I when they were popular with pilots due to their need to keep warm in non-pressurized, high altitudes planes. The Canadian War Museum identifies the term "fug" boots as the name given to ugg boots by pilots at the time. In more recent times, ugg boots have become popular with people involved with water sports including surfers and competitive swimmers as a way to keep warm whilst out of the water.

The terms ugg boots, ugh boots and ug boots have been used as generic terms for sheepskin boots in Australia from the early 1950s at which time they first appeared in advertising. The appeal of ugg boots aside from their asthetics is the warmth provided by the thick woolen fibre that the inner part of the ugg boots provide. Woolen fibres allow air to circulate and keep the feet at body temperature. Other boots on the market which are styled in the same way as ugg boots often use synthetic and faux fur which do not provide the same properties as sheepskin ugg boots which is why Australian woolen ugg boots are so highly prized for their effectiveness.

Ugg boots by design are intended to be worn without socks in order to increase the benefits of sheepskin lining.
